My compatriot, Ignacy Krasicki, in his parable The Sparrow and the Cow, shared three important morals I follow. The story teaches that what seems bad isn’t always so, and true intentions are hard to recognize.
A sparrow froze, fell to the ground, and was warmed by cow dung. It revived, started singing, but a cat pulled it out, cleaned it, and ate it.
Moral: Not everyone who harms you is your enemy. Not everyone who helps you is your friend. Sometimes, it’s better not to rejoice too loudly in trouble.
